Signs of Schilling

The Red Sox have a lot of peeps in the Medfield area. Signs are plastered along Route 109 proclaiming support for the Sox, especially Medfield resident Curt Schilling.

Much thanks to Carpool Buddy for his participation in this art project, snapping these shots from my (moving) car.

Woooosh!

At the begining of tonight's Red Sox game, I heard a huge WHOOOOOSH come from outside. Like a frieght train flying through the air. We get our fair share of planes and helicopters in the skies over JP, but this was different - much louder and deeper. It drowned out TV and the loud neighbors. I ran out to the porch, wondering if that's what a tornado sounded like (people in Kansas say that they sound like freight trains), then thinking that I was losing it, even daring to think that there would be a freak tornado in Boston. Whatever the noise was, it seemed to reverberate and loop through the night sky.

I couldn't see anything unusual (it was sort of cloudy).

How puzzling.

Eventually the giant sucking noise in the sky petered out and I went back inside. Wasn't till I turned back to the game that I learned there would be a fly over, courtesy of the Vermont Air Guard . Those four F-16 fighter jets were LOUD. I now reslove to stop kvetching when the planes from Logan zoom over my house.

T stop gets a makeover

Peer into the pit with me.

This Blue Line station (State) is getting a makeover, according to these workers who were kind enough to let me take some pictures of the work-in-progress.

Arborway stop lives on, sort of

The sign on the Inbound side of the Green Street T tracks still shows the Green Line going to Arborway.

Public Garden weirdness

Some things I'd rather not have seen at the Public Garden - dead rat & naughty statue.

Hungry squirrel

A squirrel eating a donut at the Loring-Greenough House in JP.

UPDATE: at the urging of friends, Donut Squirrel has spawned a LOLsquirrel.

What's wrong with this picture?

Intersection of Forest Hills and Williams Streets.

"Set" refers to the movie that is being filmed at Doyle's, which I now think of as the second most famous bar in Boston.

Jesus statue has 'appendage'?

This picture from the front page of the Boston Globe is almost sacreligious.

What is art? - corner of Tremont & Hanson

The fascinating parking habits of South Enders.

What does your SUV have to say?

Exotic food, locally grown.

Chicago in Boston?

Addition.

MBTA appears confused

The MBTA seems to have some (outdated) Orange Line cars that still show the Green E Line going to Arborway. That must confuse the hell out of the tourists and new students.

Not so neighborly

I think one of the neighbors is watching porn and it's REALLY LOUD. That's the only thing that could explain the moaning with bad music in the background.

Since when is the allure of pornography the way it sounds?

And while I'm venting, someone needs to tell the kids in this building that the hallways and staircases are not a playground. And being indoors means using your indoor voices. (Writing that last sentence made me feel way older than I actually am.)

Gay discrimination in JP

Yes, it even happens in JP.

The Jamaica Plain Gazette has an article about an incident that I haven't seen covered anywhere else. It seems a lesbian couple was refused service in a JP convenience store, which, in addition to being bad customer service, is apparently violates the state's anti-discrimnation law.

"... Rodrigues said she was standing in line behind Perez, with her hands on Perez’s hips, while the latter swayed to the music playing on the Tedeschi’s sound system.

.... told the couple they were acting like they were in a “videotape pornography film” and said he would not serve them, according to Rodrigues."

I guess not all men like seeing real life lesbians. And how did he know what lesbians 'act' like in porno tapes anyway?

Fresh wounds

While driving back from work, I arrived on this gristly scene not long after the cops, EMTs, and paramedics. I took the picture while waiting for the authorities to decide whether to re-route the traffic that was quickly accumulating on this 2 lane road. I figured I was waiting because of some sort of accident, but didn't see any mangled cars. I did not expect to see what I did after being waved through the intersection.

Intersection of Village Street and Forest Road in Millis, MA.

Right behind the car with its door ajar, there was a mangled motorcycle and a pool of deep red, slick and shiny liquid. Fresh blood.

I don't know what became of the motorcyclist, but I hope that s/he survived.

UPDATE:
Sadly, I've since found out that the motorcyclist did not make it.

Please excuse the dust

Spend today among the lords and ladies at King Richard's Faire in Carver enjoying the jousting, falconry, and assorted people in costume. While it wasn't terribly windy, that place is a giant dustbowl, which makes some of the pictures look hazy.
